About our landscaping work
Landscaping here isn't like landscaping in a flat subdivision. We're working on slopes, in rocky soil, under heavy tree cover, with rain that comes hard and fast and wants to carry your mulch down the hill. So we start by walking the property with you and paying attention to the boring things first: where water runs, how much sun a bed really gets, and how steep the ground is.
From there we do the visible work. Cutting clean bed lines and edging, hauling in fresh mulch or river rock, planting shrubs, perennials and small trees, trimming and shaping what's already there, and clearing overgrowth that's swallowed a walkway or a view. We build small stone and block retaining walls, set stepping stones and gravel paths, and fix the muddy spot everyone steps around.
We're picky about plants because we live here too. Something that looks great in a garden center in April can die on an exposed slope by August. We'll steer you toward things that handle mountain freeze, deer pressure and this soil, and group them so the beds still look good after the first season instead of just on install day.
If a property has been sitting a while — a second home, a rental between owners, an estate — we do full cleanups: brush clearing, leaf and limb removal, cutting back everything that's gotten away, and hauling it all off. Then mowing, weed eating and seasonal upkeep can keep it there, one time or on a schedule.
What it costs
Landscaping is quoted per property, because an hour of work on a flat front bed and an hour on a steep bank are two different jobs.
What moves the price:
- Size of the area and how overgrown it is to start
- Slope, rock and access for wheelbarrows or a trailer
- Materials: mulch, rock, soil, plants, block or stone
- Number and size of plants, and whether irrigation is involved
- Debris volume and haul-off
- One-time project versus ongoing seasonal upkeep
Bigger designs we quote in writing with materials listed out. Smaller cleanups often fit neatly in a half-day or full-day slot.
Landscaping questions we get asked
- Do you do regular maintenance or just projects?
- Both. Plenty of clients start with a cleanup project and then keep us on for mowing, trimming and seasonal work.
- When's the best time to plant here?
- Spring and fall are easiest on new plants. We'll plant in summer if we have to, but we'll tell you what it needs to survive.
- Can you help with drainage or erosion?
- Yes — regrading, gravel, rock swales and small retaining walls are common fixes we handle.
- Do you haul away the debris?
- Always. Brush, clippings and old mulch leave with us unless you want them piled somewhere on site.
